StereoBot - next-generation experience design

Detroit kicked off 2017’s City of Design Unesco designation with a bang: Luminocity x STEREOBOT, a multi-site urban activation network linking together established and emerging districts in the City of Detroit though a series of bold immersive art and architecture installations.  Stereobot set out to re-imagine the possibilities of public open space by creating a dynamic network of activations unveiling Detroit’s historic core. 16 unique placemaking activations designed by STEREOBOT dot Detroit’s urban core bringing together over 200 Storefronts, local hot spots, Parks and cultural happenings.

Launching alongside the North American International Auto Show: January 8-22, 2017 Luminocity provided visitors with a unique discovery path into Detroit’s historic core and laid out downtown’s iconic sites and sights along 5 central districts: Lower Woodward, Campus Martius, Capitol Park, Woodward Avenue, Grand Circus Park and Library District.

Brightly colored architectural installations established oasis points connecting to nearby business and storefronts. Through a series of 2 minute-walk intervals, Luminocity extended the COBO Convention center hub into the city and invited visitors to explore and discover the unique character that makes Detroit legendary. At night, the Luminocity network was activated by a series of unique light and sound choreographies designed for each day of the week and with the aim of extending public space beyond sunset and creating a vibrant night atmosphere. The 20-minute-walk pedestrian network sought to offer visitors and residents alike a glimpse into one of the fastest growing cities in the US.
